Art Institute of Chicago Announces Acquisition of Exceptional Dutch Mannerist Print Collection

Kaye Spiegler is pleased to have represented Charles Hack and the Hearn Family Foundation in connection with the acquisition of 1,440 Dutch Mannerist prints by the Art Institute of Chicago. This Collection assembled by Charles Hack over the last forty years is “a superb complement to the museum’s collection of Northern European paintings and sculptures.” Mr. Hack additionally donated a rare print to the institute and generously established an acquisition fund that will, and already has been utilized to continue acquiring Dutch Mannerist prints of the highest quality to be added to the Collection.

As noted by the Art Institute, “This purchase constitutes a monumental leap forward in the department’s Old Master holdings. In a single stroke, we have filled a major gap in the Art Institute’s collection, allowing the museum to serve as a major global center for the study, interpretation, and exhibition of Dutch art of the 16th and 17th centuries.” The institute also notes that the Collection is “[u]nparalleled in both quality of impressions and breadth of coverage.”
