Spearheaded by prominent art lawyers Lawrence Kaye and Howard Spiegler, the firm will offer unparalleled value and experience to clients in art-related and restitution matters

New York, NY – September 23, 2021 – Kaye Spiegler, an industry-leading law firm specializing in art-related and restitution matters, has been launched by internationally-recognized art law attorneys Lawrence Kaye and Howard Spiegler. The firm, based in New York, offers clients the services of an elite team of lawyers specializing in art and cultural property law matters. The team is led by Kaye and Spiegler, who each bring decades of experience successfully handling complex art litigation and transactional art law matters.

Kaye Spiegler launches with the aim and enhanced capacity to pursue a higher volume of restitution cases, which will allow the group to continue to grow and serve a wider client base. Mr. Kaye and Mr. Spiegler both have unparalleled experience in restitution matters, having spearheaded some of the world’s most renowned litigations to recover stolen artwork and other cultural property on behalf of foreign governments, art institutions, collectors, artists and victims of the Holocaust. Their new firm will focus heavily on restitution matters and is positioned to take on such matters, including high risk cases, on a contingency basis.

At the same time, the firm will continue to draw on its extensive experience in art litigation and dispute resolution, commercial art law, and art finance to assist all stakeholders in the art law space.

“One of Kaye Spiegler’s key advantages is that we are able to offer flexible pricing, which, in combination with the caliber of our team’s experience, provides our clients with incredibly strong value,” said Kaye Spiegler Managing Member Lawrence Kaye. “As we launch the firm, we are energized by the chance to handle an even greater breadth of significant matters in the art law space while maintaining top-notch service and strategic guidance to our clients.”

“Kaye Spiegler will be able to draw on our team’s unmatched experience to pursue a broader range of restitution matters, which will be a key pillar of our firm’s growth,” added Kaye Spiegler Founding Member Howard Spiegler. “Restitution matters have been a hallmark of my practice, as well as of Larry’s, and we look forward to leveraging our strong experience in this area to build our business in this incredibly important area of art law.”

Furthermore, the firm’s lawyers – who had for many years operated as the Art Law Group of New York law firm Herrick, Feinstein LLP – will continue to work with Herrick and be able to draw on the multidisciplinary expertise and experience of the Herrick team, including in key areas such as intellectual property, corporate, tax, trusts and estates, and real estate law.

“Herrick is incredibly excited by the opportunity to continue our close relationship with Larry, Howard, and their team,” said Barbaros M. Karaahmet, Herrick’s Chief Operating Partner. “We hope to have the opportunity to co-counsel with Kaye Spiegler to offer the full range of our legal expertise to their clients as they navigate significant and complex art law matters.”

The Kaye Spiegler team will also include attorneys Yael M. Weitz and Gabrielle C. Wilson. Ms. Weitz focuses her practice on domestic and cross-border art and cultural property matters, while Ms. Wilson specializes in commercial disputes involving art, intellectual property, and insurance-related issues.
